STAFF at a care provider in Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT) will be baking and selling cupcakes in aid of a dementia charity this month (June, 2017).
Members of staff from Abacare are taking part in the Alzheimer’s Society’s Cupcake Day on June 15 from 10am until 2pm and will be selling their bakes to raise money to fight dementia.
Sarah Williams, Registered Branch Manager at Abacare, said: “Many of our service users are affected by dementia so we feel it is extremely important to always do what we can to help outside of our usual care work.
“The Alzheimer’s Society Cupcake Day seemed like a great way to get all the staff involved and raise some much needed funds. We’ll be selling the cakes from our office at Ty Cynon, Navigation Park, Abercynon, Rhondda Cynon Taf, but if people are unable to make it, they can donate anything they can spare to https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Sarah-Jane-Williams4 or text MWDW71 £2 to 70070.
“We want to raise as much money as possible for the Alzheimer’s Society. Just £40 raised would pay for five people with dementia to attend the charity’s Singing for the Brain session, £150 would pay for one of its National Dementia Helpline Advisors to provide 10 hours of crucial support to people affected by dementia and £610 would pay for a Doctoral Training Centre to run for one day, helping up to eight PhD researchers to carry out studies in dementia research.”
According to the Alzheimer’s Society dementia is the number one cause of death in England and Wales.
Last year, it’s Cupcake Day raised £330,000, which is the equivalent to funding 11 PhD researches for one year, giving them the opportunity to undertake vital, potentially lifesaving work.
