Gwyneth reaches Care Heroes Awards finals
A CARER from Bangor is celebrating after recently (July, 2017) making it to the finals of the Care Heroes Awards – beating off competition from 9,500 care workers across Britain.
Sixty-one-year-old, Gwyneth Powell, who works for Abacare, was one of three finalists for the Above and Beyond Award for front line care staff who have gone beyond the call of duty for the well-being of service users.
Gwyneth, who got into the care industry three years ago after her mother received care from Abacare, said: “I was absolutely thrilled to make it to the finals of the Care Heroes Awards and be one of three finalists chosen out of 9,500. Even though I didn’t win it is still such an honour to have my hard-work recognised.
“I first got into the industry after my mother started receiving care from Abacare. I saw how hard-working and dedicated her carers were and how much of a difference they made and I wanted to be able to make a difference to people too.
“I had a fantastic time at the ceremony and it was truly inspiring to see so many caring and dedicated people in one room. I was also thrilled to see another Abacare colleague, Eira Evans, pick up the Lifetime Achievement Award.”
In her role at Abacare, Gwyneth provides care to the company’s service users throughout Anglesey.
When she is not working, Gwyneth enjoys spending time with her family and partner.
Ffion Evans, Registered Manager at Abacare, which has offices in Bangor, said: “We’d like to say a huge ‘congratulations’ to Gwyneth for making it to the finals, it is a fantastic achievement and she is an inspiration to the rest of the team and any new recruits too.”
The awards, held at the Metropole Hotel in Birmingham, were organised by City & County Healthcare Group, which is one of the largest providers of community-based social care services in the UK.
Established in 2009, the group has continued to grow through acquiring companies of all sizes and winning new business. The majority of its services are commissioned by local authorities and it also provides services to NHS commissioners and to a number of private individuals.
The awards were judged by the UKHCA, which is a professional association of home care providers from the independent, voluntary, not-for-profit and statutory sectors.
