Helplines for the elderly during the Christmas period

The festive period can be a struggle for many people, especially the elderly and vulnerable, so we have put together a list of helplines people can contact should they feel down or need to hear a friendly voice.

C.A.L.L (Wales) – 0800 132 737 or text ‘help’ to 81066 

The Community Advice and Listening Line (C.A.L.L) offers a free 24 hour confidential listening and support helpline for Wales.

The Silver Line – 0800 470 80 90

The Silver Line is a free, 24 hour, confidential helpline for older people. It provides information, friendship and advice to older people.

Contact the Elderly – 0800 716 543 

Contact the Elderly organises monthly afternoon tea parties for small groups of older people, who live alone, offering a regular and vital friendship link every month.

Age UK Cymru – 0800 434 6105  

Age UK’s ‘Call in Time’ is a free telephone befriending service, matching volunteers with older people.

Samaritans – 116 123 or Welsh Language line on 0808 164 0123  

The Samaritans offers 24 hour emotional support, every day of the year for anyone feeling distressed. The Welsh Language line is available between 7pm – 11pm seven days a week.
