Mel is appointed as our Newtown care ambassador

Mel Edwards who works as a carer at our Newtown office has been appointed as an ambassador for the industry and is offering free talks to schools and colleges in the area.

The talks will provide an insight into the industry for any students interested in working in it in the future and will also encourage understanding and knowledge about the care sector.

Mel said: “I am thrilled to have been appointed as a care ambassador for Abacare and am looking forward to getting out there and educating younger people on the needs of the elderly and vulnerable and how the care sector works, including how care staff enable people to remain living in the comfort of their own homes and how we help them live as normal of a life as possible. With an ageing population, we feel this is more important than ever.

“It’s also important to make them aware of conditions such as dementia, which is a major issue in Wales, and, according to the NHS Wales, approximately 42,000 people in the country currently have it in some form.

“There will also be an opportunity for students to ask any questions they might have about the care industry, if they are interested in potentially working in it in the future, or the elderly and vulnerable.”

Any schools or colleges interested in receiving a talk from Mel should call the Newtown office on 01686 625644.
