Tackling loneliness and social isolation is important to us. We love to hear about any initiatives and ways that we and the general public can help.

Cadbury teams up with Age UK to tackle loneliness

More than 1.4 million older people in the UK struggle with loneliness. 225,000 often go a whole week without speaking to anyone.

Cadbury is donating the words from its popular Dairy Milk bars. For every limited edition bar, containing no wording on the front of the packet, Cadbury will donate 30p to Age UK. This will help support older people through its national advice line and telephone friendship service.

As well as encouraging us to pick up a bar, Cadbury and Age UK is encouraging people to spare a few words with an elderly person as we go about our days. A friendly ‘hello’ or ‘how are you?’ or a very British mention of the weather can work wonders to brightening up a lonely person’s day.

Why not call an older relative who you maybe haven’t spoken to in a while? Try to make it a regular thing as this will also give them something to look forward to.

Why not check in on an older neighbour if you know they live alone or don’t see friends or family often?

If you want more info on what you can do to help, check out https://www.ageuk.org.uk/get-involved/volunteer/donate-your-words/ or you can do your bit and buy one of Cadbury’s limited edition Dairy Milk bars – we can’t think of a better excuse to buy a bar of chocolate!
