World Kindness Day (November 13) is a nationally recognised day for the celebration of kindness in society and day to day life. Individual acts of kindness are encouraged on this day.
We know the people of Wales are extremely kind and caring, so if you want to make a difference to an elderly person’s life today, here’s some ideas of things you can do:
Help an elderly person with their shopping
If you see an elderly person struggling in a supermarket with heavy bags or a trolley with a mind of its own, show kindness by giving them a hand.
Stop and say hello
A kind hello, good morning or good afternoon to an elderly person can really brighten up their day, especially as many of them often don’t have anyone to talk to. It’s great if you can spare five minutes for a chat.
Send a card or note to a family member or friend
Pop a note or card in the post to an elderly friend or family member who you don’t see often. They’d love to hear from you, and you could even start writing back and forth to each other.
Arrange a community get-together
Elderly people often suffer from social isolation. Why not set up a community group so elderly people in your area can get to know one another?
The best thing you can do to help the elderly is care. We’re looking for kind and honest individuals to join our team looking after the elderly and vulnerable across Wales. If you’ve never considered a career in care before, then now is the time. You can find out more about the roles we have to offer here.
