Helplines for the elderly at Christmas

Christmas can be a real struggle for many people, particularly the elderly if they do not have many close friends or family.

Helplines for the elderly at Christmas

Each year we put together a list of helplines they can get in touch with if they would like to hear a friendly voice during the festivities.

The Community Advice and Listening Line (C.A.L.L) offers emotional support and information on mental health and related matters to people in Wales. Anyone concerned about their own mental health or someone else’s can access the service.

The Silver Line – 0800 4 70 80 90

The Silver Line is a free, 24-hour, confidential helpline for older people. It provides information, friendship and advice to older people every day of the year.

Age UK Cymru – 0800 434 6105

Age UK Cymru’s ‘Call in Time’ is a free telephone friendship service for people over 60-years-old. It matches people up with a likeminded person who’s also keen to make a new friend and every week they will call you.

Samaritans – 116 123 or Welsh Language line on 0808 164 0123

The Samaritans offers 24-hour emotional support, every day of the year for anyone feeling distressed. The Welsh Language line is available between 7pm – 11pm seven days a week.

British Red Cross – Connecting Communities – call 0300 456 1155 Mon – Fri 9.30am – 5pm.

The British Red Cross’ new connecting communities service offers up to three months of support to lonely people and helps you explore your interests and start doing things you want, such as meeting new friends and building confidence.

Our carers will be visiting our service users as normal during the Christmas period and are often a welcome friendly face in their day. If you would like to find out more about our services, click here.

We also offer a 24-hour emergency on call service for the service users we already care for. If anyone needs assistance, they should call their local branch. All phone numbers are available to see here.
