Vanessa Edwards and her son Niall Williams are making caring a family affair by working alongside each other at our Bangor office.
Regional Manager Vanessa recommended her son join us as part of our refer-a-friend scheme.
Vanessa said: “I have been working at Abacare for nine years and see lots of mothers and daughters, husbands and wives and siblings working in care. We think we are one of only a few companies in the area to have so many related staff, so when my son, Niall, was looking for a job, I recommended he take up a position in the care industry as I know first-hand how rewarding it can be.
“I recommended Niall through Abacare’s refer-a-friend scheme and was rewarded with £200 in high street vouchers once he completed 12 weeks of service.”
Our refer-a-friend scheme vouchers can be used to purchase groceries, or can be spent on activities or days out, or even on electronics, such as a new Kindle. As it’s a voucher, the carer will receive the full reward value and it won’t affect any benefits or allowances they claim already.
Eighteen-year-old Niall said: “I am so pleased my mum referred me to join the team at Abacare. I am loving every single minute of my job and being able to provide care to the elderly and vulnerable is extremely fulfilling and I have met some fantastic service users who have become dear friends.
“It was great to see my mum receive her vouchers after I completed my first 12 weeks of work.”
All staff members can take part in the scheme. The person they refer just needs to complete 12 weeks of service and they’ll receive their reward.
One of the best places to source employees is from the care givers who already work for us, as they know exactly what we’re looking for and what sort of person will fit in well with the team, so if they recommend someone to us, we trust their judgement. It’s fantastic to see Vanessa be joined by her son in the same company.
We’ll reward people who use the scheme with £200 of high street vouchers for referring their friend to us, once that friend has completed 100 hours of care and 12 weeks of service.
Carers that join us and complete their 100 hours of care and 12 weeks of service will then be able to go on to refer a friend too and receive vouchers.
The campaign has already been hugely beneficial for us and we’ve welcomed lots of new members to the team. It’s also great for anyone joining us following a referral from an existing employee as they will already know a friendly face and could go on to undertake training and various qualifications.
