Combat loneliness with a cuppa

We’re thrilled to see PG Tips has recently launched its ‘Cuppas Taste Better Together’ campaign to help tackle loneliness.

Loneliness

We work extremely hard to combat social isolation, especially within the elderly generation. We recently supported The Samaritan’s ‘Brew Monday’ campaign, which urges people to share a brew with a friend or neighbour.

PG Tips has also teamed up with The Samaritans, Time To Change and The Big Lunch for its campaign to bring people together over a cuppa.

More than nine million people in the UK say they are always or often lonely. Two thirds feel uncomfortable admitting to this.

More than half of all people aged 75 and over live alone. Two fifths of all older people say the television is their main company.

Research has also shown that loneliness and social isolation are harmful to our health. Lacking social connections is a comparable risk factor for early death as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. Loneliness increases the likelihood of mortality by 26%.

We think sharing a cup of tea or coffee and having a natter with a lonely friend, neighbour or even a family member, really is the best way to tackle loneliness. It’s so simple to do and you just need to spare half an hour once a week to do it.

PG Tips is urging people to head to https://www.pgtips.co.uk/cuppastogether.html to make a pledge to share a cuppa and bring people together.

We hope lots of people will make a pledge to share a cuppa with someone. We will be making our pledge too!
