Freezer

We’ve put together some helpful hacks so you can get the most from your freezer and save you time and money in the process.

Keep your freezer well stocked

It’s a good idea to dedicate a day in the week to batch cooking meals, then you can cool them, they must be cool before you pop them in your freezer and freeze them. Present day you will thank past you, as it will save you time thinking about what to cook as it’s already done for you.

It’s a good idea to keep your freezer well stocked, as it helps to save energy and money. The better stocked a freezer is the less cold air can escape when you open it to get something out.

Cubes of flavour

If you’ve got some fresh herbs that are starting to look past their best, simply pop them in an ice cube tray with olive oil or water and freeze. This will keep them for much longer and are perfect for using in soups and stews. You can also freeze limes, lemons or raspberries in water for adding to drinks.

Space saving

When you’re batch cooking foods like soups, curries, chillies or stews, you can pop them in leak-proof freezer bags and lay them flat in the freezer to save space. You can also freeze stocks and sauces too. Remember to label and date everything before you freeze it.

Freeze everyday essentials

We don’t recommend panic buying. However, it’s a good idea to have a backup frozen loaf or pint of milk, especially if/when you can’t get to the shops.

You can also freeze items such as butter, eggs out of their shells, mixed and in containers, and hard cheeses.
